I would like to establish exactly how much my boat/trailer combination weighs - I need to make an informed choice for the next family car; a weighbridge should give a reasonably accurate estimation.

After much googling it would appear that weighbridges are surprisingly few and far between.

Does anyone know of a source that might help me locate one - Manchester/Lancashire preferably.

TIA,

Ron.

I seem to remember their is one in Leyland, and a look in the yellow pages had found these people

Try a scrap metal merchant. Pretty much all of them will have a weighbridge big enough for a truck. I regularly use one in Glasgow for weighing vehicles and they're usually pretty obliging - especially if they're not busy. Sometimes they can be a bit cagey at first, so it's worth chatting to them and explaining that this isn't anything official, just something for your own curiosity. A tenner normally gets me a front axle weight, rear axle weight and a total. It sometimes helps if you tell them you don't want a "ticket" - just ask them to tell you verbally what it says on the scales.

You could uncouple the towing vehicle and leave the boat and trailer on its jockey wheel on the bridge and get a ticket, then get another ticket with just the towing vehicle's rear axle on the bridge, etc...

The only thing is that the resolution of such big bridges isn't great - typically +/- 10kg. They should be reasonably accurate though, as previously said, the Trading Standards people keep tabs on them.

Good grief. At the risk of sounding churlish why didn't you say Glossop to start with?
