I am about to get a new laptop but they all seem to come with Vista does anyone know if JVCcomm or any of the other programms will work with Vista or should I try to get a laptop with XP. Thanks.

dont know - have you tried asking jvcom? their site doesnt list vista but that doesnt necessarily mean much.
I've just bought a good second hand xp machine and compatibility of vista was the reason. its not just jvcom but even the serial to usb emulator wont wrok with vista, and I have lots of other drivers / specialised software too. so there seemed no point in getting vista.
you can still buy xp on disc - can you get a lappy without a system? they are easy to install
