Weekend Weather looking a little...

Heard a rumour we had the remains of a fast stick heading our way for Wednesday, not sure if it's true though, been too busy to look at the forecast

I must be looking at different forecasts, was beginning to hope I would get reasonable weekend. All I have seen is generally Wly verging on NWly between F3 and 5. Might be a tad colder if in the NW but then I have just bought Musto's finest - not the usual 'Compass' Special this time!

Was thinking of a sail from Burnham up the Wallet to Walton or Deben on Saturday, sail to the Deben or Walton (whichever I am not at) on Sun, before taking boat to her new home (B'sea) on Mon. Alternatively I still have to do the delivery trip from Burnham to B'sea as away skippering a Vic 34 on south coast for the next two weekends.

Well I'm off to Shotley for a cheap summer scrub and fix the rattling anode - was going to go Wednesady and come back Thursday but now going today to dodge the Wednesday blow. Looking OK for the weekend except that a gardening weekend is planned at daughters'. Oh joy:(

Roger, what's wrong with these long light summer evenings?

You need to work on your offspring training programme.... :)

Daughter is in St Albans - garden needs sprucing up for christening do next weekend. Oh yes, we are there next weekend too! Still 2 days with Bernie at Burnham next week. Plenty of sailtime being had this year:)

How hot was it in hot land?

By midnight Thursday the remains of extra-tropical hurricane Bill will be over the Hebrides. This low moves into the Norwegian Sea and fills during Thursday. Another low forms near 55N 15W by midday Thursday and moves northeastwards as a dominant feature to 60N 05W by midday Friday. By midday Saturday the Azores high builds across southern Britain. Most areas start with strong southerly winds which veer westerly overnight and decrease by Thursday midday except for Fair Isle, Viking and North Utsire. Winds again become strong southwesterly by Friday morning in most of the North Sea but initially start east or northeasterly in Fair Isle, Viking, and North Utsire before veering northwesterly overnight into Saturday. Winds in Forties, Dogger and Humber are likely to increase to gale-force at times overnight into Saturday as all winds veer west to northwesterly. Winds by this time in Thames, Dover and Wight will fall below limits. Visibility will be mostly good but fall moderate or poor at times

What does 'Winds will fall below limits' mean? Below a strong wind warning?

Couldn't agree more Neil, the clear water is absolutely excellent. Tried free diving once in the Med and got nowhere near the bottom, only place that's better is the Carribean but the cost of getting there and back makes a big difference. Must admit I could quite happily spend as much time below water as I could above, nothing quite as tranquil and serene as swimming with the fish. Snorkel or scuba is better than just swim diving as you get more time below water but anything is better than no diving at all.
Anyway, where's the pic's ?
Unfortunately we're not going to see any from Jim's trip, hope something turns up Jim

Nice clear water in the Azores and that is not as far away as the Caribbean or the Med [by boat]. I dropped my anchor one night at a place called Calhetta on Sao Jorge. Had trouble getting it to stick and then suddenly the boat stopped moving and I had a nice sleep. Next morning looking down I could see that my anchor was caught under a 5 inch chain that crossed the harbour. It seemed a very long way down to swim to clear the anchor [7 metres] but I just managed it.

Interesting weather

I still plan to go up to Clacton from Bradwell on Thursday to see what I can of the airshow. I had originally planned to return on Friday after an overnight at Walton BW but Friday now looks to be a bit wild.

I was in the Blackwater yesterday when a big shower cloud blew through accompanied by a spectacular squall. Looking to windward it was quite sinister watching Maldon, then Osea then Stone disappear as the squall arrived. At least it gave me time to get into oilies and reef down. The horizontal rain rather spoiled the fun (specs are a real nuisance) but Bonsella's log was showing 7 knots with just a scrap of genoa and a reefed main. I noticed a few boats just dropped all their sails and rode it out head to wind under engine but that did look horribly uncomfortable. If you prepare the boat in time surely you're better off steadying the boat under some sail? I hove to for a while which was remarkably steady.
