Hello again,

A tricky one to forecast this weekend. Seems likely that high pressure will be to the east of the country, with thundery rain spreading from the west. It's the timing of the breakdown causing the difficulty. At the moment I'm favouring the UK Met Office timings which is somewhat slower than the US GFS model (the one you'll see used on most websites).

If you need to talk to a forecaster we are here all weekend and it's me on shift. The number is 090 666 444 80 and that costs £1.50 per minute. Or, if you prefer to pay by credit card call 01902 895252, state you want to pay by credit card as soon as the call is answered, and then you'll pay £11.75 for the whole call.

Don't forget, your friends can subscribe to this forecast by emailing sailingweather-subscribe@weatherweb.net

Have a great weekend,
Simon

WEEKEND SAILING FORECAST
Issued: 1400 Thursday 1st September 2005

FRIDAY
(see [image]http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/vorher/2005/09/euro/d1202.gif?1125552625[/image] )
High pressure is expected to be centred over East Anglia at midday on Friday. This is going to be influencing the weather over most of the UK and Ireland. However, a weak trough in the Irish Sea may bring some showery rain here at first.
For most places it will be a misty start. One or two fog patches in rural areas, particularly through the Midlands and Wales. These should clear away and then Friday is likely to be a fine day with plenty of sunshine. Feeling warm as well.
Western parts of Wales and eastern Ireland may have some low cloud and drizzle at first, with mist and fog patches too. These conditions should improve in the afternoon.
Western Scotland may also be troubled by low cloud and drizzle. Winds increasing in western Ireland later.
Winds mainly from the E-NE through southern England 8-12kt (F3). S-SE 10-14kt (F3-F4) in the west, increasing 20-25kt (F6) in western Ireland later.

SATURDAY
(see [image]http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/vorher/2005/09/euro/d1203.gif?1125552632[/image] )
It's Saturday when we start to see some discrepancy in the forecast. At the moment, high pressure is expected to be in the central North Sea, with a developing low west of Ireland. A trough running ahead of the low is expected into western Ireland, with increasing winds here.
At present I think that the day will be fair for most. There will be good spells of sunshine, and it is likely to be warm. Eastern coasts of England and Scotland may be troubled by low cloud at times.
For southern and western parts of Ireland there may be some thundery showers in the early afternoon. More persistent, heavier rain into western Ireland and Scotland in the afternoon.
Winds will be mainly S-SE 12-18kt (F5) but nearer 25-34kt (F6-F7) in the west.

SUNDAY
(see [image]http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/vorher/2005/09/euro/d1204.gif?1125552639[/image] )
The chart opposite is from the American GFS model. I think that the actual weather will be around 12 hours slower than this. High pressure stays to the east, with a trough of low pressure moving eastwards.
Overall, eastern parts of the country will be dry and fine, but very warm and breezy. Thundery periods of rain will move in here in the afternoon.
For more western parts the thundery rain continues, and this could be heavy, with widespread mist and fog patches on coasts.
Winds will be SE 17 to 24kt (F5-F6).
