WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
====================
Issued: 1330 Thursday 23rd November 2006

FRIDAY ( see http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/brack0a.gif ):
A large, complex area of low pressure dominating the weather through the UK, Ireland and the North-East Atlantic on Friday. A series of troughs spreading from the southwest through the course of the day.
The morning should be dry for many areas, bur rain will be affecting southern parts of England, with further perio0dsof rain across southern ireland and southwest England, this moving northeast.
A further areas of cloud and rain affecting northern coasts of Scotland.
Winds will be mainly S-SW'ly 12-15kt (F4) but 20-25kt (F5-F6) over southeast England and SW 20 gust 40kt (F6-F8) through Shetland and Orkney.

SATURDAY ( see http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/brack1a.gif ):
This is the tricky one. At the moment all of the forecast models are going for a deep, vicous area of low pressure crossing southern ireland and into northern England and southern Scotland during the day. The low will have very strong winds on it's periphery, with sever gales possible, even inland.
At the moment heavy rain is likely in the north, but the winds will be the main story as the rain clears and blustrey showers follow.
Winds will be SW 30 gust 50 perhaps to 70kt on western coasts (F7 gust F10), mainly N-NW 25 gust 45kt (F6 gust F8) to the west of the low, but many areas will be cyclonic as the low passes through.
Do check the forecasts if you are planning activities on Saturday, this could be serious. However, as always with these systems there is a chance that the low won't be as deep, or may be in a different location so there is still a level of doubt in the forecast.

SUNDAY ( see http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/brack2a.gif ):
The low clears through Sunday with a weak ridge of high pressure building through the British Isles and Ireland, with low pressure in the mid-North Atlantic. A mild, tropical maritime south to southwest flow then follows through all areas, as a weak trough moves north.
An area of cloud and showery rain moving north with the trough, most of the showers light though and affecting southern Ireland, Wales and England. Scotland and northern Ireland should be drier with sunny spells.
Winds will be mainly S-SSW 10-15kt (F3-F4).
