WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
====================
Issued: 2100 Thursday 19th October 2006
FRIDAY (see http://85.214.49.20/wz/pics/brack0.gif )
Low pressure controlling the situation through Friday, being centred over northern parts of England. An occluded front wrapped around the low will be affecting eastern Scotland, whilst another front will be to the west of Scotland.
Heavy showers for many southern parts of England and Wales through the day. Some of these could be squaly, with a risk of thunderstorms. Note though that there willbe some brighter spells in between and not everywhere will be seeing the showers.
Further showers through much of northern England and southern Scotland, with more persistent rain affecting the east and northeast of Scotland. More persistent rain may also trouble southwest Ireland, especially later in the day, whilst western Scotland and Northern Ireland should be drier.
Winds will be cyclonic close to the low, but SW 12-15kt (F4) to the south of it and E 15kt (F4) to the north of it. Expect increasing winds through southwest Ireland in the afternoon.
SATURDAY ( see http://85.214.49.20/wz/pics/brack1.gif )
A complex area of low pressure extending through the British Isles and Ireland during the day. A series of fronts for the north of Scotland, with an occlusion, preceded by a trough over the south of Ireland and England.
I'm a little concerned about the low coming into southern Ireland in th afternoon. That could deepen sufficiently to bring a period of severe gale force winds through southern ireland, southwest England, the irish Sea and parts of Wales; watch the forecast carefully.
A complicated situation on Saturday. At the moment I suspect that showers will be sweeping through much of Ireland, Wales and southern England in the morning, some heavy and thundery. Following may be a brief spell of brighter weather, before the occlusion bringing more persistent rain in to most for the afternoon.
Best of the conditions in Northern Ireland and northern England, although heavy showers here as the trough approaches in the afternoon.
For southern Scotland it should be drier with sunny spells and just an odd shower, whilst the far north of Scotland will be seeing cloud and periods of rain throughout, some of it heavy.
Winds Mainly SW 15kt (F4) in the south, possibly becoming S-SW 25 gust 45kt (F6-F9) in the west later. Variable 6-10kt (F3) through northern England, and NE 8-12kt (F3-F4) in Scotland but 15-20kt (F5) through northern Scotland.
SUNDAY (see http://85.214.49.20/wz/pics/brack2.gif )
Another area of low pressure into southern Ireland through the morning on Sunday, pushing a series of fronts northeastwards through the UK. The occluded front continues to affect northern Scotland.
Heavy periods of rain moving through southern Ireland, Wales and southwest England during the day. Further periods of rain over northern Scotland. Elsewhere a fine start, but then rain later in the afternoon.
Winds S-SW 16-24kt (F5-F6) perhaps gust 35kt on southern coasts (F7-F8). Mainly variable 10-12kt (F4) in Scotland.
