WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
==========================
Issued: 1600 Friday 16th December 2011
SATURDAY:
A cold northwest flow covers the country through Saturday. An occluded front will be clearing from the southeast through the afternoon, although a trough may affect western Scotland, northwest England and north Wales throughout the day.
There will be some cloud and rain or sleet in the morning associated with the occluded front. This whole area will track east with the front, eventually clearing East Anglia and the southeast by early afternoon.
An area of sleet and snow showers will become associated with the trough in the west and these are likely to be feeding onto northwestern coasts throughout the day, some making it into the western Midlands.
Elsewhere the day should be brighter with some sunny spells and broken cloud. The best sunshine is always likely to be in the south.
Winds mainly W 12-15kt (F3-F4) ahead of the front, becoming NW 14-16kt (F4-F5) behind it.
SUNDAY:
A ridge of high pressure builds through the country through Sunday, although a trough is going to be affecting northern parts of Scotland.
Generally the day is likely to be fair for most with some good spells of sunshine. There will be a few showers here and there, most affecting western coasts. The showers may be more persistent over northern Scotland where the trough could bring quite a lengthy spell of snow for a time.
Winds will be generally W-WNW 12-15kt (F4).
