Hello again,

I know that loads of you are planning trips so thought you might like this forecast early, especially given the unsettled weather for the weekend!

Thanks to all of you who have bought my book so far (if you haven’t you can click here to find out more about it. I can’t believe how popular it is, but goes to show there is a need for a book that explains easily how the weather works. The DVD I’ll be bringing out soon is along very similar lines and I am sure you will find it really interesting.

Weatherweb.net has been updated and now carries many more forecasts. I am working on adding more too. There are now:

Surface frontal charts to 5 days ahead
Detailed wind forecast charts for regions of the UK to 5 days ahead
5 day forecast texts for the UK, Ireland, France, Mediterranean and Europe
Satellite cloud forecasts for Europe
Month Ahead and Seasonal forecasts
So if you haven’t visited lately see http://www.weatherweb.net/uksail.htm

Onto the weekend forecast, and if you know anyone who’d like to receive this email each week just tell them to send a request to join to sailingweather-subscribe@weatherweb.net

Best wishes,
Simon

WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1600 Wednesday 15th July 2009

SATURDAY:
Low pressure is going to be east of the country through Saturday. I suspect that models are not good at predicting exactly where this will be right now, and I do expect the low to actually be a little further west than shown below. However, for all of the country it will be a windy day with a strong wind from the northwest.
Eastern areas will be cloudy through the morning with periods of rain. The rain heavy at times on eastern coasts, although it should slowly fade into the afternoon. Further west it will be windy and there will be cloud and some outbreaks of rain in the morning. Generally though it is going to be improving and although there will be some showers on windward facing coasts and hills the weather should be generally dry and become bright.
Winds will be a NW’ly 25-35kt (F7 – F 8) on eastern coasts at first, nearer NW 15-25kt (F5-F6) in the west.

SUNDAY:
The low remains to the east of the country through today, and the winds stay strong over northeast England and Scotland with gales here. A weak ridge of high pressure looks set to make its way through Ireland and into the west of Wales and southwest England through the day.
More cloud, rain and strong winds for the east of Scotland, this affecting northern areas too. There is a chance that the rain may be very heavy at times across the north and central parts of Scotland.
Further south the day is going to be a breezy one again with a mix of sunshine and showers. Most of the showers will be over windward facing coasts and hills once again, but some will be blown further inland. Much of East Anglia and southeast England should stay dry.
Winds will be NW 25-35kt (F6-F 8 ) across north and east Scotland, generally W-NW 15-20kt (f%) elsewhere but WSW 10-12kt (F4) over Ireland.
