Weekend Trip out of the Medway to Faversham via the Swale.
Six hours at 5 knots. Going through the Swale usually with less than 6ft under the keel.Even less in Faversham Creek.
After the Isle of Sheppey bridge you need a bit of care to stay in the channel if transiting around LW.
After a couple of hours heading towards Whitstable the bouy marking entrance to creek hoves into view,as creek completely dries, its a case of anchoring until creek bouys float.
Then follow channel for about 2 miles inland until you reach old lock gates, which mark end of navigation,
Town Quay is the remains of old Cinque port wharf with the original medieval warehouse still standing behind. It is now the home of local sea scouts. TS Hazard.
Named after the ship Faversham had to buy to send to fight the Armada.Cost £270 quid by all accounts.
The town itself stands good comparison with any of east coast ports.
Excellent market on Saturdays.
The Town centre.
One of the many little back streets.
The return trip past "Iron Wharf "where old sailing barges are restored.
The way out and in.
A very interesting boat came round with us, very much like a typical Thames launch, except it was built in New Zealand.Powered by a single 40hp diesel it really did look nice underway. Owner came round singlehanded.
The folks running the mooring are very welcoming and you can book, costs around £10.00 a night.
More pubs and eating houses than you can shake a stick at.
Well worth a go,just pick you tides.PM me for phone number of chap who manages moorings or go on to council website for email address.
