Well NC flew through her safety test which was our only reason for heading down the Witham to Boston, but the weed proved to be very tricky to navigate on the way to and from Boston. We wont be going that way again this year its just too bad, plus we have knackered another prop on the dinghy with the weed infestation.
This was the mess we found at Bardney Lock. We had to flush the weed through before we could get any boats in. Two lock fulls in the end had to be gotten rid of.
We then battled through various different types of weed in the river.
Before stumbling across this stray struggling with the weed. Their main 15hp outboard had overheated with the weed and the little auxillary wasnt making any progress. They had about 10 miles to go to get to Boston Marina, where we were headed anyway so we hitched them alongside and towed them in.
The wind and some slucing from lockie at Boston did clear the river a little overnight but not enough to make getting back upstream much easier.
Thats the last time for this year that we are heading so far down the Witham. We will stick to the Fossditch and Trent now. Much less weed to worry about.
