I have noticed this year (I suppose because of the high temperatures in the UK) that there seems to be a very large amount of seaweed floating about. Yesterday I moored up on the Deben on a swing mooring and went to the pub. When I came back there was quite a lot of weed around the rear of my boat. I thought little of this started up and set off. Very soon my temp gauge started to move very rapidly towards the red. I headed for a buoy and moored again. As I mored the boat swung to the tide and for some reason I moved the leg up a little and suddenly the temp gauge started to fall as quickly as it rose. It settled just above 140 degrees F and kept at this the whole way 'home'.

I can only think that the weed was blocking my water intake. (Alpha 1 gen 2 leg)

Worth keeping an eye out for, Anyone had the same happen to them

Hi,

I am in Denmark. We have a great summer with high temperatures as well and we do see a lot of seaweed too.
Especially in the fjords.

I had my DPG (290) Volvo legs block the other day due to seaweed. At slow speed I picked up seaweed (folding around the drive legs where the water inlets are) without noticing and suddenly the temp alarm got on. Anyway immediately after reversing the seaweed got off and the temperature went back to normal.

After this accident I do watch out for seaweed….
Also I have found that this year my raw water filters must be cleaned out more often.
 
I get this all in the time in Hamble. To the point now that within the first five mins i stop the boat and go astern to clear anything..always works.
