It's showing an error code #09 which says that there is a problem with the glow plug, I'm assuming either failed or coked-up. Is fitting a new glow-plug something that could be tackled by someone who can, just about, service their own engine, with a basic mechanic's tool kit or do I need to take it to an expert?

You can do it yourself. Start by downloading the workshop manual from the Butler Technik website - https://www.butlertechnik.com/technical_library/air-top-2000-d15 - this has all the instructions for replacing the glow plug. You might even buy a new glow plug from Butler Technik as a thank you for their online help!
