The post about French v. UK met reports made me look at my weather favourites.
Loads of them are now expired!
Does anyone have an up to date list of the best sites? Just me being lazy and not wishing to spend ages hunting around but also there are probably a few new ones that I haven't got.

As always, be wary of downloading anything from any website but I personally have not had any problems with using any of the above.

Hope it helps.

MagicSeaweed for access to the old Euro TheyR weather source. Excellent animation of the weather for the next week.

XCweather for a good overview of recent, current and easy to digest numerical wind forecasts. But many for the wind reading stations seem highly influenced by local factors that moderate wind strength.

US NOAA weather buoys provide a consistent hourly view of recent conditions around the British Isles. The buoys in the Western Approaches and west of Ireland give a useful advanced view of what's on the way. Unfortunately the new Google maps based buoy selection interface is not so friendly on dicky mobile internet connections.

For a decent stab at a medium range weather prediction visit:

I would'nt claim to be that handsome but I probably will be sailing around the Solent this weekend when others are just talking about it.Just watch out that I don't pull up in an anchorage anywhere near you /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The BBC indeed! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Come on I like the BBC particularly when they have those sunny symbles poking out from behind a little cloud.Or better still all sun!How much more of a green light do you require? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anchoring in the Solent, don't be silly. We have a Bavaria and ever since you stated that any anchor on a Bavaria irrespective of make or supplier was just 'like Bavaria yachts themselves all glamor & glitz but with questionable underlying value' we have been frightened to use it on our boat.

This is the huge value of these forums, without such knowledgeable people such as yourself we Bavaria owners would be quite happy sailing and anchoring without a care in the world. Lucky for us we are now fully aware that all our keels are about to fall off and now our anchors will fail.

Remind us all what boat do you own and sail so I can buy one just the same and return to sailing around the Solent safe in the knowledge that nothing every will go wrong?

Now lets not be silly here.I was suggesting that those narrow fin keels don't provide the ultimate cruising yacht.
That anchor was clearly defective & if you choose the right equipement (which is out there) there is no reason why you should'nt have a simply wonderful blissful experience /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

passageweather.com very good for offshore and ocean (can download lots of grib forecast times for wind, pressure and waves in compact .zip format)
ECMWF very useful for middle-term forecasts - d+3 to d+10 or thereabouts
