Hello, I am trying to sort out which will be the most useful frequencies for getting weather information on a trip across the N Atlantic, Newfoundland to UK. I will be using a Sony IFC SW7600GR receiver. Frank Singleton's site has useful info but any feedback about which are the most useful sources would be welcome.

thanks, Colin

Hi,haven't been able to find voice broadcasts, I am downloading forecasts from Northwood onto lap-top, set is an ICOM 75, aerial is dipole, 8m along guardrail, 8m up backstay, works brilliantly at mooring on Exe...have tried'Herb's net,,calledSouth Bound11, call-signVAX498, ,daily on 12359kHz from2000UT-unable to pick him up so far, but will keep trying.Best Wishes, Nick(Dolphin of Fowey)

Hi, I haven't had much luck with downloading weatherfax either and I suspect a better antenna would help. I am interested in your dipole on the guardrail and backstay, I haven't heard about that way of doing it before. Would you mind elaborating a bit?

thanks

Colin

From Carib I had New Orleans\Boston\Northwood just using crocodile clips onto a car radio aerial on the mast into the antenna jack of a degen 1103. Shroud would probably be better is it´s a GRP boat.

Any old bit of wire for an antenna should get you northwood, but in a marina maybe not much. Out at sea is a different thing altogether.
Try 10.1MHz for DWD rtty text, it´s usually quite strong.
