Weather sources - websites, met office etc...

Hi Guys and Girls,

For the last few years I have rellied quite heavily on MetCheck.com - it is IMHO an excellnt site that seems to give pretty accurate weather prediction for 1-7 days, OK longer range 7-14 and then more general for the month ahead.

It has an upgrade (paid for) which we did for a season, but to be honest the Free service was good enough for us.

However it has been up the spout for the last month or so, giving wild predictions and the times are all shot.

So how does everyoneelse get their weather, websites, navtex, Met office etc... what are GRIB files, they scare me.

All help greatly appriciated

Agree about metcheck. I use several to gain concensus but my favourite:-

This is for the solent but covers pretty much everywhere.

None of them are perfect, but i find http://www.xcweather.co.uk/GB/forecast to be as good as any, certainly a million % better than the met office.

As the government is looking to save a few quid, can i nominate the met office ?

mmmm not sure that the wife will be all that pleased to hear that. Think I might keep that one to myself.

Another vote for x c weather, have allways found it acurate and yes get rid of the met office as I have never trusted their forcasts yet

If you want to look at Grib files, try here:

http://www.grib.us/

They are just the raw predictions with no human intervention. You need to register, but they have never sent me emails or anything not wanted.

They are very useful as a check on the other sites. I agree that xcweather and weatheronline are very good, but you still need to make your own judgments on how consistent they are.
