Having planned two weeks off on the boat now, the current ( ****) weather have made me change my mind... so off for a week to Cascais tomorrow... (old stomping ground as we used to have a flat there).

This coupled with last years disasterous summer (even wetter than this one....) have made me think about if it is time for a change...

That is .... I am thinking about putting Navigator up for sale and consider faster week-ender (e.g SS Tommahawk)... or something like a smaller Targa for the week-end blasts etc., but head for sunnier climate for the main holidays.

Any wise words from this forum to get me off my negative train of thoughts ?

Same here, I've been out 3 times so far this year that's it. I think boating in the uk is for yachts where they need the wind. Looks like I'm booking a nice sunny hol by Friday this week if the forecast is similar after the 13th, it's just a joke.

We're also on holiday, theoretically at least as things stand, and for the first time ever I had a grumpy 'is it worth it' moment as we have been fighting weather all year and last (albeit successfully).

In my case I was thinking more along the lines of moving Formanda somewhere where the weather might be better - but then I'm pretty sure we'd get busy, she'd get neglected and we wouldn't get the benefit anyway.

As for going smaller - we tried that train of thought before buying Formanda and just knew the limited accommodation would bug us and thwart attempts to do some of the things we like, such as spreading out when there is just two of us and accommodating friends when there is more. Ironically we wound up buying a bigger boat than planned, such were our failed attempts to be modest.

It's probably best to sleep on it and remember the good times with a pretty fair assurance they'll be some more to come. I still think you only need a couple of truly awesome experiences aboard a boat each year to justify the lunacy and even in a daft weather season those things tend to happen.

For us the first of them this year was a 22h non-stop passage London - Potsmouth which we would never had done had the weather not dictated a 22h30min window. Last year we did the same run in mirror calm conditions spread over three hot days...in October. Bizarre.

Just personally sorry we weren't geared to use all that good weather in March this year!

And yes please stick us on your wish list for some sun.

We also gave up and booked flights to Malaga to stay with my wife's sister. While there I popped into one of the Marina's to see what it would cost to have the boat there.

The answer was a lot less than I expected, so we are now considering moving our SS Portifino 32 to the Med

Severe gales forecast for Italy / Croatia next week. Very unseasonal weather for that area. Take your umbrella and raincoat.
Luckily, I have checked the local weather and it is sun, sun, sun all the way and after that, more sun:) So no raincoat and umbrella for me, just my Speedos and credit card

Was considering a taking the boat to the Norfolk broads for a week, sitting around the swimming pool in Fuerteventura at the moment trying to find some shade from the Sun. Looks like the wife was right.

Deleted User in speedos, that I must see. Well on second thoughts, maybe not! :D
Have fun.

Suspect we might well go that way in a few years time, this really is quite depressing this year.

We have 2 weeks off from 13th July and the weather doesn't look to be improving. Totally fed up!

Have decided to tackle the boat but take passports and swimming gear. If windermere stays as bad as the last 7 weeks then it will be a quick dash to Manchester airport and find some sun.

So far this year we have had the canopies off once and loosing the will with it all

The forecast for the second half of july is looking more promising.

weather

well done sundowner, get to the med, like i said earlier, i bought a boat in benalmadena last year, fantastic, best thing i ever did, i get every three weeks for around £70 return with ryan. and costs are similar to down south here but guarnteed warm weather, think what a waste of money you have here while your boat is tied up most of the year, god, i cant wait to get back.

This is sounding more and more appealing! Our 'baby' has been trying to convince us that she's built for whizzing round the med for years! She's now pulled the old 'leaking canopy' trick..............:o:D:D
