An "Executive Descision" was made to take next week off and go to the boat, with a view of hitting the Cherbourg Peninsula.

However, the sites I used to view with regard to the weather forecasts "over there" have disappeared, or are no longer available.

Anyone got any info as to where I can get forecasts for the other side?

Likewise, anyone fancy accompanying us?

First off, glad you decided to comit yourselves and go public on the forum and good to meet you on Sunday

I use a German site which as far as I know is the only place to get hold of Bracknells synoptic charts which forecast out for the next 5 days or so

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten/fsfaxsem.html>http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten/fsfaxsem.html</A>

Click Bracknell under the small "Fax" headed selection and then chose the chart you want

Someone will hopefully now point me to a UK site where you can get these

Chris

Meteo France

Would strongly recommend <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.meteo.fr/meteonet/temps/activite/mer/cotes/cot.htm>http://www.meteo.fr/meteonet/temps/activite/mer/cotes/cot.htm</A> for the French coast.

Generally speaking the region forecasts are right on the button on that side of the Channel. It's all in French but relatively easy to understand.

Quite a big download to access the page but when working remotely I bookmark the individual forecasts. However, be careful to refresh the page as occasionally old forecasts appear in cache if bookmarking direct.

Re: Meteo France

Excellent - Thanks very much, although it looks like I may not have chosen the best week to go

Re: Meteo France

That site is Ok if you parlez the old Francais. The BBC have a weather site and you can get a 5 day forecast on it for various French areas including Cherbourg.

Re: Meteo France

Oh Byron, even with my dreadful franglais I can get by on Meteo France. Believe me it is worth trying.

In any event not exactly equivalent -- the Meteo France forecasts are the 24-hour ones that also have actuals at the foot. Better than Oostende and on a par with Channel Islands forecasts in my book. If Meteo France does five-day forecasts I haven't looked that far. And anyway five-day forecasts lie, especially mid-week issued ones when forecasters (I reckon) indulge in an understandable spot of posterior covering

Besides, I much prefer 'mer agitee' to 'bloomin awful' -- you still get trashed but it seems a little more poetic somehow...
