Thinking of buying a Grundig Yachtboy radio 80 as a general radio but also as a weather fax receiver. Has anyone any experience of this radio? Also can anyone recommend a good computer prog for the laptop?

Thanks in advance.

Good bit of kit, works very well even with aerials supplied in the box.Only criticism is that it wont run on rechargeable batts as they show battery low and turn off even when fully charged. But does seem to last a long time on duracells.

The Grundig Yachtboy was one of several evaluated by either Yachting Monthly or Sailing Today recently [sorry I can't remember which] and it came out well. I'm thinking of buying one so if you find a good deal, please let me know!

Just checked the Amazon website and they are quoting £47.09 which is the cheapest I've come across. Trouble is the delivery time is quoted as "usually 4-6 weeks".

It was Sailing Today. They also pointed out that the YB80 is EXACTLY the same set as another with a Roberts badge which is listed at a far higher price.

Sailing Today did and evaluation of a few sets that they said were up to this sort of work and the SANGEAN ATS 909 came out top for performance – 5 star. The Yacht Boy 80 was 4 stars.

The SANGEAN was RRP £205 and the YACHT BOY £59 so the YACHT BOY would look to be the best buy.

The software they suggested was Mscan Meteo Lite (www.mscan.com).

I have been thinking of going this way for weather information so I would be grateful for any feedback that you guys have to offer once you have had a chance to operate it.
