Anybody have suggestions on a good weather fax system that is good to receive in Northern Norway, a friend suggested Navtec, not sure if they send/receive so far north.
I know of commercial system but that costs a fortune.....

Both the UK Admiralty and Germany transmit weather faxes covering the N. Atlantic and western Europe. If you already have a PC on board, get an Icom PCR-1000 black box communications receiver and Bonito Radiocom software. Marine Computing International at Hamble will sell you both.

I have ICS Navtex 6 plus. Brilliant bit of kit. Receives on 490 & 518 including SAR info and Navigation warnings. Don't know what reception is like near you. Can you ask some local owners what they use?
