If you want to watch it all happening go to

http://euro.wx.propilots.net/

scroll to Satellite infrared 1/2 hourly. Then on the right load about 24 images--top time then hold shift to a much ealier time. LOAD. change the animation speed to 50.

Enjoy.

What I find so scarey is how quickly this is developing. What is the "engine" that is causing this .. is it abnormally warm ocean currents, or a warmer than normal atmosphere ?

It's the proverbial ill wind. I sympathise with my Northern friends; but at least here in the South West my boat floated off at 0600 this morning, the first time I've managed to do it since the October storm surge carried her up the beach.

I just got back to the 'puter after dashing out to to marina to check the boat's warps and its already blowing a hooley (Troon).
Lines are all doubled up and as well as lines to my own pontoon I have bow, breast and stern lines to the opposite finger to keep her off.
Winds are forecast at 100 + tonight. Fingers crossed.

Where about on the web did you find this chart, most charts seem to get prettied up too much and have no scale to work out the wind speed.
