“Official” weather observations around our coasts are relatively few and far between. See http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/marine/observations/index.html. Other “official” sources can be seen at http://weather.mailasail.com/Franks-Weather/Latest-Weather-Actuals-Near-Uk-Waters#internet.
I compiled a list of “unofficial” automatic stations at http://weather.mailasail.com/Franks-Weather/Unofficial-Weather-Actuals...
I have now been looking at http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk run jointly by the Met Office, Royal Met Society and Department for Education... This is a collation of many more private or other non-Met Office observing sites.
To access the information you have to register. Thereafter, you can access the latest observation from many sites around the British Isles and Europe. There are increasing numbers around the USA, Caribbean and South America. It will undoubtedly grow to become a worldwide service.
