A long planned expedition to the land of white stilletos and people who think Fords are neat took finally took place over the weekend when Unit18 and me formed a convoy of two and headed over towards the Maplin Sands at the crack of lunchtime.Glorious day and dead calm as this pix of the wreck the liberty ship shows

Actually me being a lot slower than him,I set of hours earlier and he caught up at the end of that interminally long bit of mud that gets in the way when you come up from the south.
dscn3070.jpg

Lunched in the clubhouse the first night and wandered into the village of Burnham the following day for a very pleaseant wander round.

Things not so hot on the way back

Just one one quick photo demonstrating that you can tell how some boats are timeless and some date very quickly. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You were Lucky, all the Essex gals were on sarfend seafront cos they don't know where Burnham is /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Lovely place though, we are relocating to Burnham yacht harbour next year on orders of SWMBO. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Very nice place to stay, even if it is full of yotties. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Unit18 ended up parked next to Muckypup and we were a few boats away from an old yotty neighbour from two or three house moves ago.
The last evening we persuaded Mrs oldgit to walk through village to eat at "The Contented Sole".Will definately have to go again.
The very reassuring thing about Essex is no matter where you are you can see the chimney of Grain Power Station(hence civilisation) ,on the return once past Whittiker bouy ignore the plotter and just aim for the power station.

hard to find
I remember the MBY of mid 80s where full of them 11.5 and 10.5 Laguna for sale at the time
we have about 5 of them in Malta
one was modified a lot, with a new stern layout integrated platform and also new engines etc
but i prefare the original squared one with teak platform, I think if you double that platform and leave it with teak and make a hydraulic Passarelle and remove davits it will look much better
I think with convertible saloon they sleep about 10 in total
very spacious and solid boat indeed

Glad we actually got to go somewhere at long last with the way the weather has been. Unfortunately when we got there I noticed a trace of coolant around the starboard engine deck filler and the engine had been unwilling to pull above 2000rpm (not that we do that very much) and issuing black smoke when going above 1500rpm. The last time I had the coolant being pressurised it was the head gaskets on the port engine.
Set off home and the sure enough the starboard engine wouldn't go above 1200rpm without black smoke and running slightly hot, lifted the hatches when we were back in the Medway and it was puffing from the crankcase breather. Bugger!
Hopefully just head gaskets.

Yes Vic 56 the old boat was in Stangate Sunday night. I spent the night next to it. We must have crossed paths somewhere along the line as we were fishing up around the Maplin Edge. We was going to spend the night in the Blackwater but as the warm sun sent me to sleep whilst watching the rods I missed the last hour of the ebb

. That made going to Stangate or the Swale better options. Oh well I will try the Blackwater one day.

You were a bit secretive Fred.

I arrived Sunday afternoon and had a look round but couldnt see you or any boats with forum flaggy things. Commented to Full Circle Morgana and CliveG who were involved in the raggie racing that you were supposed to be there. I ended up on C pontoon. perhaps more communication would permit a few exchanged beverages.

I had a nice run down except having to divert into Bradwell to get some fuel.....one tank said 0% as we entered the marina .......oops, close call that one.

Did you get to see any of the raggie racing....i had a day out with Full Circle and was amazed at how close they got to each....with a few bumps and lots of shouts of STARBOARD.....course the raggie on starboard tack is stand on vessel....

another time maybe....
I need to go back to the mudway as i have lots of friends living in kent.

3 BottlesSorry to have missed you,we ended up in berth C22 in the finish. We should have been in C36 but somebody in a Baveria nicked it.
Very nice Hardy 36? just along from us.
Had a very early 6am start for our return trip so a nice early night beckoned on Sunday eve .
How are those engines going, has it all been sorted?
Was that you lying at the end of the mooring by the entrance?

Fred
think i remember your boat there....should have knocked and at least hoped it was you. and yes it was me towards end of pontoon....about 54 fingers down.....looking very topless i think you may recall /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif did make a change to cruise with no canopies up. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Yes very nice Hardy /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Engine problems were sorted...overheating....recent article in MBY or MBM saw an admission by Volvo that different cooling could affect the heat exchanger....after they kept telling me nothing was wrong /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
but have just had an upgrade under warranty and some problems have arrived..a small fuel leak and the starboard engine doesnt start on turn of key..at least i'm not getting alarms going off now though
