Just thought I would leave a quick note to let you all know we survived our day skipper course. I would recomend it to anyone who needed a confidence boost I now feel much happier about what we are doing and think we will now have the courage to push a little further afield! I even managed to get sun burn in the solent, I was well impressed with the weather!

The course did not go with out the odd hitch, first while practicing mooring against a running tide in the Hamble we lost forward on the port engine, thankfuly we made a swift recovery and after an hour fishing about under the bathing platform we were back up and running. Day 2 carrying out the same manouver in a very busy Cowes we snapped a throtle cable on the starbord engine, at this point I thought our instructor was cursed but thankfuly we had a spare on board and were back running within the hour!

We had a fantastic few days and I even managed to enjoy the night trip from Yarmouth back to OV, something I thought I would never say! (still no plans for much night time cruising though)

I picked up lots of handy hints not least of which was that when doing the day skipper on your own boat you are gonn be playing with the throttle/gear controls a hell of a lot so do not be suprised if they let go!

PS. I did try to come say hello to you Talon but every time I saw you you were heading on the oposite direction to my boat, I did come over and have a nosey at your nice new canopy though!

Sorry we missed you Simon. Both myself and Dad were trying to remember what mooring you were on, I said A18, Dad said A16 or A12, we just could not remember. We are probably both way off, what are you on D pontoon or something, sorry my memory is pants!

We were going to go round knocking on boats saying are you the one on the forum, but we felt people would think we were weird doing that.

What mooring are you on, we will definitely be down there on the weekend of the 23rd April, there is a new members cocktail party up the RSYC which we are going to, perhaps we could meet up on the Saturday morning or somthing? PM me and let me know.

Great about your Day Skipper course, glad it all went well. I am the same, the night cruise was good, but no plans to rush out and start night cruising all over the place, dusk and dawn are my limits still, I like to see exactly where I am going.

Throttle cables, that is a spare I have never considered carrying on the boat, not sure how easy mine are to swap to be honest. I think if one of ours went I would helm from downstairs to get me home, then look into replacing it. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

It is a good feeling once you are officially qualified, a real accomplishment, well done! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

See you soon....

Hi

We did wave like mad people on more that one occasion when we saw you leave your mooring, we were on D32 for the weekend. We saw you leave on friday and passed you coming back in later on, about an hour or 2 later, we saw you again on Saturday heading out I think.

I am pleased we have done it and now feel able to push the boundaries a little further, problem is it has made me yearn for a bigger boat!! Hmm, how big does a bot need to be to live on??? I feel a post coming on!

As for the throttle cable, well you are lucky as you have a spare built in, only having one helm position here we were kinda stuck!

On a side not, visitors moorings at OV are soooo expensive I was shocked, Hythe was less than half the price!
