We lifted Sirenia out of her trailer today and dropped the keel out of her bottom.

There is some damage low down at the front of the keel box.
Not sure if it is enough to sink her though.

Going to North Weald Boat jumble next weekend will try to get some epoxy etc to repair it with.

Good to hear things are moving on CliveG. Not any expert in anything, but as you say what damage is there does not look much.

Is their a forum for your vessel you could enquire on ?.

Its good to hear that things are progressing well.

Gary.

To answer both the above.

Yes I belong to an evolution yachts Forum that I found recently.

The damage was caused by me running the keel into hard under water obstacles /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have put the photos on there but that forum is very slow to respond and seems to tell people what they have done rather that try to help others.

The up side is that I have managed to contact Sirenia's designer and he is in contact with her builder.

Just my opinion Clive, but from what I saw when I called around earlier, the damage is more than enough to allow sufficient water to get in at a rate that, in a short space of time, would raise the water level in the keel box to a point where it would start to overflow, and as soon as it started doing that it would have taken hefty bilge pumps to keep on top of the water coming in. With everything loaded in Sirenia the extra weight would have added pressure to the leak so water would have been coming in that little bit to start with, then more and more. Just my opinion as said, but try making a model similar to Sirenia, but just the hull. Then stick a couple of small holes in the keel box similar to what you have, then watch what happens if you stick it in the bath, that might at least give a better idea of whether the damage was sufficient to sink her

Quite agree /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Nothing technical needed though, tupperware box with lots smaller tupperware box to act as keelbox
Cut a hole in the big box to fit the small box and glue in place
Weigh it down till the water is at roughly the same level as is normal
Poke a couple of small holes in the 'keel box' bit
Watch what happens
Better than still not knowing if the effect could be a sunk boat /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I am sure it will sink in the end. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I am more interested in finding a way of stopping Sirenia sinking again.
I am waiting for some suggestions from her designer and her builder.

Working around that bulkhead in going to be difficult. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
(See other thread for photos)

There was me, all ready to do my Blue Peter stuff with sticky back plastic and toilet rolls /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No argument there, it's a pig of a job, don't envy you at all but hope the designer has some helpful hints
