Had a good (for me) crossing to Cherbourg (13 hours) with up to 30 knots of wind last Sunday and was met by Fergus and Co doing Col's booze cruse.
I had gone over to do a bottom scrub, so dried out and cleaned the hull on Monday then discovered a broken tensioning bracket on the 24v alternator. When we got back to the pontoon we met up with Ozzyb on his summer hols, he was making for Brest but had been delayed by the weather.
Tuesday I went in search of a garage that did welding, I asked a local trawler man if he could point me at one, which he did. I followed his directions and ended up at C.M.N. Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie a massive ship construction company! But undeterred I eventually found the gate and asked if they could do a 'small' job, the gate guard made a phone call and out sauntered 'the man that can'. He had a look-see and said he couldn't do it that afternoon but it would be ready in the morning. I asked what the cost would be and he replied "no charge" how good is that!
I turned up on Wednesday with a bottle of Almanac as a thank you for an excellent job done.
In all the years that I have been to Cherbourg, I had never looked round the sub-marine museum so paid it a visit and found it extremely good, it had all manor of submersibles as well as the nuclear Sub, an aquarium and the Titanic exhibition.
Crossed back to Poole on Thursday in sunshine and an Easterly F3 in 13 1/2 hours and before the rain started - all in all a good week :)
Now back in the land of rain and floods. :(

Just missed you - arrived on Friday intending a Saturday Xing. Gales forecast Plymouth & Portland and SWMBO a nervous sailor so delayed return until today sunday! 1 month off and only 2 days of sunshine.

Puts us off doing extended sailing holidays unless someone can sort the weather.
