Following a recent feature we are getting dozens of calls asking for our outdrive cutters....this was a mis print, outboard cutter yes outdrive cutter no.

Hopefully this will field out a few more phone calls as it's getting a bit busy just saying no we can't help on every third or fourth call!

If you're genuinely getting that many calls, can you not offer your own warranty on outdrives proven to have cutter related problems?

We did, but the manufacturers of the outdrives / pods / legs suggested they would not honour warranties on leg damage, which put off nearly every customer.

...so do we infer that outboard manufacturers WILL honour warranty in the same circumstance?

In that case surely it would make sense to offer an outdrive cutter as you should get similar interest to the outboard market (possibly better as on the whole a tilted outdrive tends not to be as accessible at sea as a tilted outboard), the warranty concern is the same on both so will put off custys or not irrespective of engine type...and if you offer both the volumes will be higher assuming some common components.

Just a thought....

In theory, and we will be looking at it again in the future, but for the time being we are pretty busy just with shafts.

It will be developed but I think I would rather see it licenced to a manufacturer of the leg than sold as a bolt on accessory.

Why would you want a rope cutter on a outdrive.Understand on a shaft where it is simply not practical to gain easy access for rope removal.
With outdrives, you just stop, lift up the legs, remove offending item with your always available incredibly sharp knife and then motor on .
Unless of course the genius who designed your boat hid the blooming things away under a lump of glassfibre mainly there to pretend your boat is 3ft longer than it actually is. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
