Hello, all.
Cottesway is on the water again. Our beautiful stealy is repaired and even better than before (to us, anyway). We have her on the incredibly gorgeous River Shannon. We spent an idyllic summer aboard....cut short by our trip to Vietnam to adopt our second mate....and hope to be back on again soon (if the second mate agrees to sleep on board!)
It's great to be back!

Excellent news Caitriona, welcome back!

How were the repairs carried out on your lovely steel boat?
Did they chop out the corroded area(s) of plate, and then butt-weld in new section(s) of plate, or did they just do patches?

Have you got some photos showing the sequence of work?

It's me, yes! No photos....we never thought of it and had our minds preoccupied with our Vietnam mission. WE have welded in new sections of pate and we are delighted with the' results. We have lost our nerve a little and plan to stay onthe river for a while....but who would complain in such a beautiful place?

Great News! I was gutted for you when you found out that your lovely steel boat was, infact, a sieve! Glad you stuck with it and still love her! Next time you are down on the river, take a few pictures foir us! Did you keep her hull blue?

Cheers

Some years ago, we had a 37 feet Dutch steel cruiser that we sold to a man who took it to the Shannon.

Just curious if it could be the same boat?

Cheers,
Paul

I am pleased for you...Seems you found a good steelworker, a sensible surveyor and a responsible insurance company and so achieved a sensible answer to your problem.

You now know what can be achieved in repairing steel boats.

Nothing new as ships are steel and bits of hull are repaced regularly.
