I tend to take the cover off my engine and give a good all over spray after using it. I did this with a Yamaha 75hp outboard and after ten years it looked almost like new - on the inside.

I have heard (rumour) that CRC-66 is better for spraying outboards as it affects the insulation of wires less than WD-40.

What is the difference between WD-40 and CRC-666 ?

I just cannot stand the stink of WD-40. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I've never heard of CRC-666 /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif (only the '666' part /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

For rust prevention I'd recommend Castrol's Rustilo (many variants for different length of layup - see the castrol.com web site), and for general use around engine electrics I use Duckhams Duck Oil (never had any problems with insulation / wiring).

I am told that Lanotec (an Australian product derived from sheep wool, with an added hydrocarbon-based solvent) is very good, too. There's a new UK distributor; I'll try and find out details.

A far better product/treatment for areas that need protection from corrossion and one that will also treat existing corrossion is ACF-50 or Corrossion block.

I've used this with great success on some extreme cases of alloy corrossion and also for long term salt protection.

Have a read through what it does here.

The marine trade has been very slow to take this product on despite being exhibited at marine trade shows, however you can find it in a few motorcycle shops, or contact worldwide aviation in Hurn.
