It's February, it's cold and the boat's laid up in France. I'd like to update waypoints and routes ready for the summer and would prefer to do that in front of a roaring log fire rather than in a freezing cockpit come the spring.

The perfect solution would seem to be some planning software which runs on a laptop or home PC and then transfer the files (waypoints and routes) onto the chartplotter.

On board I have Raymarine kit but attempts to get their RayTech Planner to perform have met with miserable failure. The instructions are awful and looking at various forums it is obvious I'm not alone in having problems. (I say, the Americans don't mince their words when they are underwhelmed by a product do they?)A week ago someone from Raymarine's customer support was supposed to get back to me but they obviously can't get it to work either as I've heard nothing.

So, here's the question.

Does anyone know of a reliable software program that enables waypoints and routes to be created at home and which can be transferred to Raymarine plotters on board? I use Navionics cartography, have the cards at home but would prefer to avoid paying inflated prices for a custom reader.

A real bonus would be software which works on a Mac...now that really would be the bees knees. Ever hopefaul.

All ideas and suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks in anticipation.

I use the free version of Raytech planner with Navionics Gold and Navionics card reader.

I use it on a mac using bootcamp. Be aware it does not work using Windows Vista.

I plot and then transfer the waypoints onto an SD card (Raymarine specify particular make and size of card to use ) and then upload onto my c120 on the boat.
What problems have you had? you do need to read the instructions carefully.
