My sister has decided to puchase one of these boats to sail in the Lake district. I do not know much about these small boats other than they are a stable trainer/cruiser/racer. She is looking for a GRP model.

Has anyone had any experience owning one? What should we be aware of when viewing? How much are they? etc...etc...

Her E-mail address is etfathers@hotmail.com

Thanks

Ben

I suggest contacting the Wayfarer Association for the info you want and possibly other benefits.

I don't know their address/ telephone number but you should have no difficulty
finding them by searching the web.

An excellent boat, widely used by many sail training organisations. Some remarkable open sea voyages have been made in them, e.g UK to Faeroes and Iceland. I have known several owners who quite happily undertook trips that owners of large cruisers posting here view with some apprehension.

My only concern would be that it is a largish dinghy and can be a bit of a handful for children and small ladies (and some small men!) to launch and move about in the dinghy park.

I agree totally with the other posts. I took my first sailing course in a Wayfarer when I was 10 or so. Good stable boat and carried 4 of us (3 adults and me) quite happily. The boat is rather big and heavy for a very lightweight crew, but they sail very well.

They were used in all weathers, right up to a force 6 on the Taw Torridge estuary. That was a lot of fun.. boat started to plane as soon as we came off the wind a bit and we fairly flew..

They have got a handy amount of storage space too for extra clothing, picnic stuff etc...

Sounds like your sister is making a very good choice.
