Just chatting to a lady who works for Waverly and Balmoral.Looks like thats the end unless they raise enough money to keep going. (i'm not connected in any way) but how about putting the word around and maybe donating to them rather than usual charity.Even if just one survives.Other annoying thing was chatting with friends last week and the old lady next door died and left several million to animal charities!!!!!! Not to Louise (my friend) who looked after her for years or her family out in NZ!

Who were you speaking with - the media comments in Scotland suggest a different outcome?

Either way funds are always in short supply for the charity.

In today's financial climate, I think it must be quite difficult to get support for both ships. Maybe it is time to moth-ball the Balmoral and concentrate on the Waverley? Hopefully if/when things improve both ships could be brought back into commission.

The concept of the 2 ship operation is based around a number of considerations - one of which I understand is providing enough sailings from locations to allow piers/harbours to still be able to accommodate the ships.

Take Penarth Pier for example - with only Waverley operating Penarth would see around 20-30 annual calls by the ship. Would the local council be able to justify the upkeep on the landing jetty for such a low number of calls?
