I have lofrans kobra windlass, chain drops straight into chain locker at deck level. As does any seawater underway. Any top tips for watertight bung other than a plastic bag shoved down there? Steel boat so keeping water out gets obsessive.

I had the same problem with the Lofrans Royal on our Westerly. It was only really bad in conditions where we were taking regular greenies over the bow, when even the carefully stuffed rag failed to stop the torrent going down and soaking the sharp end of the forepeak cushions.

I designed ( posh word for designed) but drew up a pivoting plate -- a bit like those keyhole covers you can get, it works on the same principle. The plate has a cut out that fits over the chain. I made up a cardboard template and got it made in stainless. It is screwed to the deck with a self tapper. It won't keep all the water out but so far it has worked well for us.

I am going down to the boat this week-end so if you are interested PM me and I 'll take a picture and send it to you.

Yep, I did the same on my last boat ..... but I made it with 'SeaTeak' or 'StarBoard' ... worked well. Stainless steel seems a better option though.
