There are so many UV protection sprays / liquids etc out there does anyone have any specific recommendations? It is for general use on spray hoods, canvass etc.

I assume, like many things, there is a lower cost option that performs 99% as well as the big brands?

I see a lot of caravan forums saying Thompsons Waterseal for decking and brickwork works very well.

try Nikwax website (or phone them, Kent somewhere I think)

Buy in a can the Fabsil UV product. I used it in June expecting 'not much' but it made a cover that used to drip (due to a sag) into the interior waterproof again. I'll do it every 6 months. Like my sailing gear (I do saiking gear every month (waterproof shorts daily wear need it)

Used to be the case but the new "improved" version says on the can - do not use on canvas.

I have found Fabsil etc have to be applied in vast quantity and redone frequently to have much effect on heavy fabric like sprayhoods. I'm sorry you can't get Graingers Mesowax any more. I was tempted by this one http://www.stormcare.co.uk/activity/canvas-waterproofer-5l.html but when I ordered a can they sent me their (considerably more expensive) Fabsil equivalent http://www.stormcare.co.uk/activity/textile-waterproofer-5l.html by mistake and I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of exchanging it. When it runs out I will try again to get the other one!

Just as a matter of Update I emailed Fabsil and asked about their normal or Gold version.

They said although the Gold version contains a lot more silicone waterproofer it does not contain UV protection so for something like a boat cover that is exposed all the time, 2 coats of normal is better than 1 of the gold.
