Waterproof Sealant

Does anyone have any suggestions for an appropriate flexible sealant I can use to seal a minor (for now) leak between my bowthruster tube and the flange of the bowthruster motor unit? I cannot make the gap 100% dry so the sealant needs to be capable of sticking and curing to an already slightly wet surface. And the seal must be removable to allow the bowthruster to be removed in the future.

I know the longer term answer is to have a lift out and do the job properly but this is to repair a bodged attempt 2 months ago (by a professional) and I want to avoid another £400+ lift out.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Matt

You could try sikaflex, load your stern to get the nose up and get as dry as can be before applying, I also beleive there is a sealant that will work under water but do not know the name of said product.

I think the sealant that cures under water is made by an american company called "life caulk". if i remember it has some heavy metal (not rockbands) in it so it has to be handled with care.

Try two part epoxy putty, available from all swindleries.
Cures under water if need be.
Small tube that is always handy aboard if needed.

Thanks for this - I thought that these epoxies set hard and couldn't be removed after curing.... is this incorrect information?

Hi Brendan,
Thanks for the link to this prduct. It looks great but unfortunately it says:
"No longer need you worry about sealing that Pond liner and installing a Bottom Drain ... use this remarkable sealant and it will never leak ... in fact you would have to break the bottom drain to be able to remove it".

Therein lies the problem - I need to be able to remove the bowthruster later so the seal has to be breakable.

But thanks anyway - I might need it for something else one day.

Matt
