Waterproof lazybag - yes/no?

With the mainsail off I decided to clean the lazybag. Should I also waterproof it?

Mine seems never to have lost its original waterproofing. Now 8 years old and been machine washed each winter. Just normal (uncoated) acrylic canvas.

If you put the sail away wet then can it dry?

Mine has mesh panels to ensure that it isn't waterproof and thus the sail doesn't get mildewed

I think waterproofing in this context doesn't mean making it airtight. It just means that the cover itself won't get saturated and stay wet for ages. Waterproofing makes the water bead and roll off keeping the threads of the cover dry but just as 'porous' to air molecules. It won't do any harm but may not be necessary.

We waterproofed the top sections, but not the bottom - reduce inbound rain, but allow outbound
