I've exhausted my supply of Duckhams Keenol for the stern tube, and it doesn't seem to be available any more. Could I ask for recommendations, please? I see there's some quite expensive stuff called Ramonol now, plus a variety of other cheaper greases that claim to be "waterproof" or "marine". Is Ramonol worth the extra? (Boat is in freshwater, rather than seawater, if that makes a difference)?

On the principle that every little helps the environment, I have changed from standard mineral based greases to Shell Naturelle, which is what we have to use in the underwater bearings for the hydro-electric station.

It is very much designed for underwater, high pressure use, and is approved by Rolls Royce, no less, for rudder carriers.

If you have difficulty getting hold of some, I might be able to scrape out an 18kg tub and send you a litre.... :)

Thanks, that does look interesting - especially as the boat is on a lake. However, it looks like I'd have to buy either 18kg of it, or a dozen 400 gramme cartridges seems to be the smallest quantity I can find! If you do have any scrapings spare, I'd be willing to give you something for a litre!
