I just spotted these waterproof breathable socks @ €13.99 in my local Aldi ,(in Ireland). Any opinions on them? Should buy, or get the Sealskinz ones?

Wow! That is a bargain.

Have used sealskinz and found them excellent, but pricy. About twice the price of the Aldi offer.

I have tried many variants of waterproof socks for hiking use and found none of them to be any good. However hiking is a bit of a stress test cf sailing and they may be better in that use.

Why does one need waterproof socks? If you're feet are that wet something is not right.!

Bought these online, my pillion lady gets cold feet and however good, very few biking boots are truly waterproof in a long wet ride. Work brilliantly and keep feet toasty and dry, cheaper than Sealskinz and every bit as good, she wears them on the boat too now

I have a pair of otherwise perfect leather seaboots which will last many years. I'm loth to replace them on account of a small ingress of water which exists when they have been exposed to wetness for a few days and which can be dealt with by waterproof socks. Must be my Scottish genes

I have waterproof breathable socks integral with my breathable drysuit.
I don't think they 'breathe' very much when encased in a boot.

With waterproof socks you then have a choice of footwear. Not that your feet are wet.

I've bought loads of Aldi cycling and running gear and it's always been excellent, way better than price would suggest. I use sealskin socks for cycling and I've emptied half a cup of water from them, they definitely hold water. It's not a failure of the socks, the problem is water running down your leg into the sock, so hardly the socks fault. I've had this with cycling and lesser extent trail walking in grass.

When I used to cycle to school (1960s), I had a pair of waterproof "pull-ups" which had a strap/loop at the bottom, to go under your shoe, so that the water flowed over your shoe rather than into it. I wonder are these still available?
Spats will help while trekking.
