I have a Sea Panther engine which has had plenty of tlc lavished on it: new liners, rings, reground crank and new big ends, re-done valves, re-built/practically new fuel pump, injectors checked, new oil pump, timing chain, re-wound starter motor, upgraded wiring, etc.
It is now a much, much better engine than when I got the boat as it is much more reliable. However, one irritating 'quirk' remains: sometimes it will start first time [from cold] and instead of running normally will run faster than the throttle setting suggests for a second or two and then stop.
There is always plenty of fuel at the HP pump inlet when I start to work through the fuel bleeding process. After bleeding one or two injectors it starts sweet as anything.
Can't find any leaks around the HP fuel pump (albeit it's not in the most accessible spot).
The fuel tank is above the engine and so the "lift" pump, filters, etc. all sit below the level of the tank.
Any thoughts? As you can guess it mainly happens when the crew are on board!
Thanks very much
