I use sodium metabisulphite to pickle my watermaker. It is vicious. John Guest fittings disintegrate and now I find my low pressure pump's check valves are no longer checking. They have gone brown and scalloped and the pump needs rebuilt.

Is there a pickling solution which is less aggressive?

Having just purchased a secondhand Katadyn Survivor 40e myself I await responses with interest.
Mine has come with several bottles of Katadyn’s own pickling solution along with an entirely new membrane and seals kit whilst I also saw it operating on the vendors yacht before he removed it to sell it to me a few weeks ago.
They are swallowing the anchor after ten years cruising and feel their now aged steel cruiser will bring more money partially parted out with things like the watermaker bringing decent money whilst not adding much to their sale price if sold as a package with their yacht. 🙂
I haven’t had a watermaker previously and only purchased this one with some hesitation now as we are planning a 3/4 month cruise/expedition into a remote area without the ability to resupply at all and where wild water sources can be uncertain and protected by monster man eating crocodiles!
