Has anybody got any suggestions how to improve my exhaust system on my colvic northerner which I think is a vetus. The problem is a rubber end piece through the transome, jubilee clipped to a rubber pipe reducer, to a rubber pipe to the rubber silencer ,to the metal reinforced rubber exhaust pipe, all joints jubilee clipped. When you try to tighten the clips, its rubber compressing on rubber and its very hard to make a satisfactory joint.

are you saying the exhaust components are joined together by rubber tub. my old boat had a rubber silencer, i had to buy rubber reducing sleeves so the silencer could be connected to the skin fitting on one end and by a piece of barrel tube about 100mm long on the other, connecting the exhaust pipe to the silencer. hope this makes sense

It does sound like an unusual system. I have a spiral reinforced hose to a Vetus plastic water trap, then spiral reinforced hose to a Vetus plastic muffler, then reinforced hose to a Vetus plastic gooseneck which is then inserted into a Vetus transom fitting, all jubilee clipped.
With your system you'll need to fit metal or preferably GRP connectors/reducing connectors to join all the rubber components together with jubilee clips. Thats the only way you'll get the proper seal. You can get straight and reducing GRP connectors from ASAP Supplies.
Alternatively I suppose you could use a metal or GRP insert into the smallest diameter and then fit the jubilee clip over the lot - this should work OK.
Good Luck anyway.

Thanks for the advice, particularly ASAP supplies. It sounds like the answer. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
