Water temp sender Yanmar 3G

You could try VDO or Faria (I think spelling is correct). However, I have just spent a lot of time sourcing a sender for the 3YM and had a lot of trouble finding one with the correct thread; the 3YM has a 16mm diameter 1.5mm pitch threaded hole; VDO use a lot of British and American threads (e.g. 3/8" UNF, 5/8" UNF). I think Faria (ASAP supplies catalogue has this make in it) do metric but not in the sensor plus alarm style that I was looking for. However, I did source some adaptors for sensors from a car parts supplier to go from English to metric which solved my problem (if you find you need adaptors then PM me and I'll give you details).
So, be careful of the thread and pitch that you need then try and find a sensor with the same, and of the correct temp range ................. not as easy as you first think!

just out of intrest, whats up with the old one

[/ QUOTE ] The previous owner probably used the area of the head of it to rest a bit of wood for tightening up the alternator... I discovered this when I was trying to do the same thing... result is that the electrical connections have been broken off and it is only possible to attach the two leads with 'liquid metal' or similar.. cannot see a way to repair it with the moulding damaged as well.

yep sounds like it is a new one needed, on my yanmar it is a VDO unit, it only has the one lead to it.
does yours definately have two

Not 100 % certain - could be only one... there are a couple of loose ends floating around in the compartment... I sort of assumed the 2nd came from something under all the 'liquid metal' will have a good look. Is the VDO standard? I could probably get one from ASAP rather than a Yanmar stockist -
