water tank vent?

Hi

can I pick the assorted brains of the forum on the issue of the stainless steel water tank fitted to my Liz 29. It sits nicely atop of the keel under the cabin sole and water is supplied by a small hand pump to the galley sink. Nothing unusual there but after a couple of strokes of the pump it becomes very hard to operate and it seems clear from the way it works that it has created a vacuum in the tank and is being sucked back restricting the flow of water.

It seems the original owner may have left the jubilee clip on the delivery pipe loose which would allow air into the system when the pump is operated but water may also drip out. My question is should the tank be fitted with some sort of vent pipe and if so how do I fit one now as the tank does not appear to have any spare outlets?

Do I just loosen the jubilee clip again and except that the pipe will leak a little and occasionally fall off (that's how I found out it was loose in the first place)

Regards

Your tank should have some sort of vent close to the top. Otherwise how do you replace the volume of water drawn off. With a collapsable tank the tank bladder just collapses. With a solid tank it cannot do this so the water must be replaced by air. Are you sure that the vent has not become blocked? I am sure the tank would not have been built without a vent.

If there really isn't a vent fitting on the tank, it may be easier to tee a union for one into the hose between the deck filler and tank than fitting one directly into to a stainless steel tank whilst in situ.
