As a first-time boat owner, can someone tell me if water resistant grease is available from normal DIY type shops or do I need to go to a marine specialist (Not easy as I live in Birmingham)? I tried B&Q and Halfords at the weekend and neither could help.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Phil

Obviously depends on application,

I use Duckhams Keenol for wheel bearings.
Silicone grease for other applictions such bolt threads and have also use it in my winches. I get that from cpc.co.uk and rs componants mail order.

I usually buy Keenol when I see it, which is usually at a Chandlers.

Towsure do a marine grease Aquaslip,

CPC also list Aquaslip
I have not used it but both send quickly. If you can make your CPC order up to £35 (I believe) P & P is not charged.

You say you in Birmingham, you could also ask the narrowboaters.

Keenol is (I believe) no longer available, Ramonol is a replacement, suitable for stern gland packing.
