Is it necessary to use purifiers every year, or every fill up? do most people clean out water tanks during winter service? Our water tastes fine, but would rather keep it that way

Thanks for any info

We fitted a General Ecology water filter which has a seperate tap for drinking water. (see yachting mags)
Been in use now for five years and trouble free apart from a annual filter change at 40 quid. We spend about five months on board each year. We fill the water tanks, all over then med, and don't bother with any chlorine or cleaning. No bad effects and we haven't had to lug any water from the supermarkets for drinking.
I would say it's the best bit of kit we have fitted.

[/ QUOTE ] No but if in doubt use Milton as in for sterilising babies' bottles. The label gives a dose rate for treating drinking water. Used now and then it will keep things fresh. If necessary a stronger dose can be used for cleaning the tank.

Now we'll get loads of posts about using hypochlorite bleach because it is so much stronger and cheaper than the couple of quid a bottle of Milton will cost from all those people who do not mind drinking what ever other nasties there might be in bleach along with chlorates (as in weed killer) than can be present in ordinary hypochlorite solutions.
