Water Pump fusing

I have a jabsco 59452-0012. It has been unused all winter and I filled my tanks to flush out. The tap was open for 10 minutes so the pump was running ( have done this every year) when the pump ran slow. It then fused. Since it runs again with new fused, but fuses every time I turn the tap off when the motors runs on for seconds.
Anyone any ideas?

Sounds as though the impeller became partially blocked or jammed, causing it to run slower, therefore drawing more current and blowing the fuse.

Do you have the correct fuse? 10 amps ??

Perhaps the pump is not being switched off as it should be by the pressure switch and is simply stalling and blowing the fuse when the pressure builds up high enough to stall it.

Sounds unlikely but I cannot find out anything about the pump. Jabscos (Xylem) website is useless now

Is it a diaphragm pump or an impeller pump ? Diaphragm I'd have thought. Have you quoted the number correctly?

Check your wiring, a bad connection can lead to low voltage at the pump causing it to draw excessive current. Have you measured the voltage at the pump terminals while it is running ?

Use an anti surge fuse of the right rating. Motors have a very high current surge when initially energised and a high stall current. Repeated surges can weaken a conventional quick blow fuse. In all probability the cause will probably be along the lines already suggested but the fuse is a good practice anyway.

That should solve the problem if its fault with the pump. Its the expensive way though.

However if the problem is in the power supply, as Claudio suugests, you will have spent a shed load of cash and not solved the problem.
