Hi all,

I am amazed that my account is still valid after about 5 years away from boating and my last posts on the site.

However i'm back and raring to go. My partner Caroline and myself have just bought the Carrera and having spent the weekend on it, one problem we have found is that the Shurflo water pump seems to be to powerful for the water system. The pressure valve on the calorifier releases before the pump turns off.

I have done a small amount of research on the pump and believe it runs at about 45psi. I don't know what the relief valve is set at because there are no markings on it. The only info on the tank is a Heatrae sticker that is coroded and almost unreadable.

Now to my question:- Can I just swap the valve for a higher rated one?

Any advice greatly recieved,

Dean

Hi and welcome back, 45psi sound way too high for a domestic water system, I don't know about changing the relief valve but it should be possible to adjust the trip out pressure on the pump, there should be a screw on the pressure switch housing as these are adjusted at the factory when made. It sounds like you have the wrong type of pump for a hot water system, but see if its adjustable before you go any further.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, it's great to be back, I have certainly missed the boating world.
I agree about the pressure, but I wasn't sure about the pump adjustment. The pump is mounted facing down so I can only see the motor body. I will take the pump out to see if it adjusts.

Dean

hi.welcome back.
i put a 60 psi pump on mine, same result relief valve kept going off.
their should be a adjustment screw on the pump as already stated. i found that if you pressuries the system so the valve blow's off and then adjust unitil it dos'nt was the best way.
p.s the adjuster screw is very sensative you only small adjustment's

I will certainly give it a whirl, as I said I wasn't sure if the pump adjusted but it sounds as though it should.

Thanks for the replies,

Dean
