I think I've sent my Johnson pump back under warranty 4 times in the last 12 months. Each time the fault has been down to the water pressure switch. Sent it back 5 days ago with this same problem.
I have a spare Johnson, also with a kn*ckered switch which I fitted, along with an old Whale inline switch I found, that has been on board more than the 10 years since I bought the boat. The switch inside that unit failed through corrosion within just a few minutes. When I took it to bits I found that there is a tiny microswitch, the size of which appears to be standard to the type. I got one (a V15 22A 250VAC) and fitted it today. Appears to work perfectly. The price was just over £2 from RS.
I'd just like to thank everyone who has advised me through the forum.
Also I'm hoping this will help others if (when) they have this same problem. Prior to moving over to the larger Johnson pump I had Shurflo. The Shurflo failed, again, because of the pressure switch. If I'd known about the fix I've just implemented I could have probably saved myself the price of the new pump.
The Whale inline switch is about £23 and the uprated micro switch £2. It's an easy DIY job. Just got to see how long it lasts now!
