was out on the boat up the thames today and we have noticed that we appear to be get getting water leaking into the mid cabin (in the left hand corner when looking in). Only probably noticed it as we had taken the bed matteresses out last week to have them cleaned up. it appears (although not certain) that it happens when the water pump is on and we have used the taps, either in the heads or galley. it looks like its leaking in through the corner joint of the side panels, so I can't remove them to see where it's coming from.
Any advice or suggestions - apart from abandon ship!

Not sure about the s23 but on an s24 the location you describe is where the water pump is located.

Assuming the same layout for services on an s23

Does the pump run without any of the faucets open?, if so you have a leak as the system is pressurised & water is escaping.

Probably joint needs tightening as needed on our s24 when we found water in the bilge under the pump.

is this a costly job to get fixed? as new to boating I would assume that is is something I need to get someone in to look at as doesn't sound like a job for a novice boat owner.
Did notice more water in the bilge when I did some checks. Whats the best short term solution, until I get it checked then - perhaps empty the water out via the transom shower and not fill up until sorted?

when you say "Does the pump run without any of the faucets open?" what exactly do you mean by this?

I wouldn't have thought the builder would have fitted it and then completely obscured it - there's got to be some way of getting at the pump.

Your pump should only run when you turn on a tap - it has a pressure sensor that detects the drop in pressure when a tap is turned on. A leak provokes the same reaction - albeit for (usually) a brief period, maybe a second or so.

You need to get at it to see what's happening. By all means empty the tank until you can get to the pump, but you'll need some water in the system to find the precise location of the leak.

unfortunately this appears to be a problem with sealine boats. the water holding tank is in two parts and sealed together.the seal usually becomes defective resulting in a time consuming (2 days labour) attempt to get at it an fix it or replace the tank

I have just fixed a similar on our S23. As you look into the aft cabin on the left hand side I found water was running down the wall!!
I had just been cleaning the outside and found that the trim tab control box was loose on the dashboard and the water had run down behind the dash! and found it's way into the cabin from there. I removed the headlining that was wet - dried it out overnight and will be replacing it tomorrow. The trim tab control box will be resealed so as to stop the leak.
NB it could be from the dash or from the panel that has the throttle lever attached.
Hope this helps

Did you mean the water leak is on the starboard side? if so it has nothing to do with the galley, it is more than likely the heads! The sinks have been known to leak now & again!
not an easy job to get to, basically you have to remove the sink, (run a stanley blade under the outside edge to break silicone seal) you will probaly find that one of the pipes has slipped or the plastic T-fitting on the tap/shower head unit is split! This was always a common fault with these tap units.

good luck!

yes you are right in that it is leaking on the same side as the heads. We have since realised that the taps on the sink have been left 'on' since we took ownership of the boat last month. We originally thought that the taps worked just by pressing the lever on the shower head, then it occured to me at the weekend (just before leaving the boat) about how we control the temperature of the water and realised that both the cold and hot tap had appeared to been left by the previous owner in an opened postion. I am hoping that this maybe something that has caused the leaking (ie, the constant build up of pressure) although I fear that because of this, there maybe a constant leak now.

Water leak on the S23

I also have a water leak on my S23. My leak is from the fresh water system. I took the drawer out from under the cooker, and tightened the pipe fittings. They were loose.
This has reduced the leak to very slight, the pump now runs after five minutes instead of one. The only place left for me the check is in the shower and basin, but I am not looking forward to that. If it was the pump then water would run down in the engine compartment, which is dry.
Has anyone found the leak in the shower compartment?
To save filling the bilges, we don't leave the pump on, but open the desired tap and run the pump for the required amount, then turn the pump off first.

You can test if it is the water system by testing for seawater or fresh.

We have repaired three this year. Our own and two for friends, all leaking in the same place. You have to cut the sink out in the heads and behind there is a plastic t piece that connects the two taps. This had split on all of our boats due to the cold weather. We got a brass replacement from Seabridge marine for £20 fitted it and no more leaks. We also lagged any pipework we could get to behind the sink unit.

The water from our leak made its way to the cabin floor next to the door into the heads.

I was having a leak, same as above, but only after a shower. The taps weren't leaking and you could pour water into the drain in the heads all day no problem. The leak started when water was sprayed around the toilet (ie. when you're having a shower)

I found that on the inlet/outlet pipes of the toilet the water was getting in. Solved this by siliconing the pipes to fill in the gap left (the hole was bigger than the pipes). While I was at it I removed the heads and sealed the 4 bolts securing the toilet.

Seems to have solved the issue, just thought i'd throw it out there incase anyone is having the same problem.

Hi, could you describe what you mean by "cut the sink out" please? Does it not dismantle?
