Seems to be loads of folks with water in the tanks.
I once accidently filled one diesel tank with water!!

First PANICKED /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Then thought a bit. Water always goes to bottom of tank.

First (Maybe not recomended) I took the drain plug out till the colour changed from clear to red.

I've just done a drawing but that bloody B1 Tony wont accept it!!

Take out drain plugs, with finger over hole. Fit a tap. Then pipe it to another tap as low down as possible. Open first tap. Now any water in the tank will find its way down the pipe. Sp every now and then, you close the first tap and open the second and let the water out. I've also conected my two tanks together, so I can transfer fuel as well.

The tank full of water never caused a problem.

Hope this helps!!

Ah yes,the delightful Mrs unit 18 helped me out by doing the same thing.Luckily I have two feeds off each tank, one about 2 inches up in the side and one in the bottom, and the fuel seperator is low so was able to drain it by taking the bottom off the seperator until it turned to diesel. Double dose of Soltron and it was fine.
I think she felt guilty for about......., well no she did'nt.

What you need is the new Pifco Filtermattic Popular Plus.Removes eveything and is available from all good hardware stores, especially good for removing harmful limescale in the diesel.

Got three tanks ...
Two side each approx 700 L, balanced with 1" pipe (but have seperate valves).
Both these feed a Central tank (approx 100L), which the fuel pipes run from. This central tank have a drain valve at the bottom rear, connected to a longish (3M) flexible armoured hose for drainage.

Oooh... to prevent me filling diesel tanks with water, the boat is equipped with fuel fillers on each side aft and the water fill point at the bow ... sort of several meters away from each other..... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif just hoping it won't happen to me, and if it does I feel confident that there is a way to resolve the problem...

Pah! Anyone knows that the Ronco product is far far far superior to the Pifco one. For starters the Pifco one is made in the Peoples Republic of China. Whereas the Ronco one is made in Tiwan which everyone knows uses far superior grades of plastic. Plus the Pifco warrenty is only for the life of the batteries where the Ronco one last the life of the packaging. And just to proove that just look in anyones bottom draw in the kitchen......full of lovingly kept Ronco box's!

Alf, what you need is the Pifco fillermattic 3000 which only allows the correct fluid application.
I have no connection with Pifco, but do admire their fine products.
