Hello everyone.
I have a old BMC 1.5 and seem to have water in the diesel. What can i do to get the problem sorted. The boat is in Shepperton marina on the thames. The engine turns over but not starting.
Many thanks

Empty the water from the water seperator?

And if it is still filling up quickly with water, drain off the water from the bottom of the tank (below the diesel) (or siphon / pump via deck filler).

dont leave it ... as water droplets in the diesel pump causes damage. Get onto it soonest.
Lots practical helpers Shepperton Marina G pontoon.

Can you run the fuel out of the tank and through a funnel lined with chamois leather and into a clean container? This will give you clean fuel. Diesel engines will put up with a lot, but they won't abide fuel which is even slightly contaminated. The ensuing damage to the injection pump could be horrendously expensive to repair. As Martin says, don't leave it; attend to it as your top priority.
Peter.

Dont even attempt to start the engine again - you may do extremely expensive damage as if water has reached the injector pump it is seriously damaged and will need expert attention. Remove ALL the water from the fuel system starting at the tank, and working through each filter or separator. Run fresh diesel through the lines to make quite sure there is no trace of water left anywhere.

Reconnect the injector pump, release the pipe to one of the injectors and see if fuel is still being delivered when the engine is cranked. If not, water has destroyed the pump and it will need either repair or replacement - at a cost of several hundreds of pounds /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

This happened to my 1.5 in about 1988, and it cost me over £400 then to get it sorted. Fortunately for me the fuel supplier accepted liability, as they had sold me 10 gallons of diesel - six of which was found to be water when we drained it back off!
